Babes Ride Out

LONDON Motorcycle Training

Learn to Ride at Camp VC | Ladies Only Moto Event Aug 4-5th in Wales Presented by VC London

EventsAshmore Ellis

Babes Ride Out won't be able to physically make it out to Camp VC Aug 4th-6th in beautiful Wales but we will be high fiving the ladies of VC London and will be supporting it! The ladies of the UK will be offering training classes to ladies who are wanting to see what the two wheel lifestyle is all about. All ladies signed up to learn will get a Babes Ride Out x Vans tote bag so read on and get to know more about this ladies only event coming up in a few short months.

We love that there is on site training. What will ladies learn?

We’ll be teaching everything to start you off from the very basics like basic bike checks, finding your way around a bikes controls to clutch / brake control, riding to turning & have you riding in no time. We’ll also be giving advice on the steps to take next to go on to progress onto getting onto the road with a CBT or even onto different moto sport training with advice available from professional women involved pro moto sport & adventure riding that we have onsite.

How many ladies have you trained through VC?

We’ve given little over 70 ladies their first go at riding & over 100 with our linkups with official training schools.

What are some of the highlights of training someone who has never ridden before?

For them- They get to start out doing one of the most fun things they'll ever do (ok maybe we’re a bit biased…ha) , learn a new skill & hopefully they'll want to pass it on to help others start out too.

For us - We’re always stoked when we get someone who is super nervous & within half an hour she's all of a sudden burning around in circles like a bad ass loving it! We’ve never charged anyone anything for the beginner lessons we’ve taught as we’re in it to pass on the good stuff that the three of us have found through motos. It always feels pretty good to give a bit of your time to someone else in a big city like London where everyone is usually inside their own bubble. The idea is that we’re just rolling what we love doing out to the countryside & bringing other inspiring women from other areas to do the same in one place! One part of the event that were really stoked about is that VCC will be presenting talks onsite at the event with some amazing inspiring women involved in everything from flat track, enduro & pioneering adventurers to professional skaters (news dropping soon on some very special guests we have lined up!)

UK is very different than the US on riding. What do ladies have to go through to get their license?

Its a pretty long drawn out process as you've got to go through some pretty extensive training which can sometimes be pretty expensive too.

Firstly you have to complete a CBT (compulsory bike training) day course with basic bike skills like gear control, turning, emergency stops etc, with a half days road riding. When you've finished the day you can ride any bike up to a 125cc engine with L Plates on the road. You then have up to 2 years to complete a written theory test & two practical tests of riding (usually with some training in-between) to be able to get your full licence & ride any bike. So its no easy task but totally worth it in the end! This ain't no throw away hobby :)

You ladies have been so busy this year. What are you working on?

Events wise we’ve got some great stuff lined up this year in the run up to CAMP VC including some women's dirt days at an inner city motox track & some women's flat track riding events & classes that were running with the DTRA & Greenfield dirt track.

We also just launched our women's label VCC last January which is going really great! One of the things that we’ve loved the most about being involved with VC London over the last couple of years is that its brought us together with so many inspiring like minded women doing so many awesome things, not just with motorcycles but in so many other arenas too. Pretty organically, meeting all these women has inspired everything we do with both VCC & VC London. I guess its just good timing but the fact that there are so many women out there killing it in so many new arenas all at the same time that inevitably you all end up meeting & sharing a common ground & attitude. This is something we’ve always been about & so Camp VC & our VCC label are just an extension of that.

We’ve also got a lot of road trips & travelling lined up in Europe & further afield with some exciting collabs & projects coming along. Its gonna be a busy year!

VC London | Helping Ladies Get on Two Wheels with London Motorcycle Training

Events, DIY Tips, PeopleAshmore Ellis

Our partnership with VC London to produce the first ever international Babes Ride Out is more than just a weekend, it's a commitment to build each other up and continue support to all those willing to learn. One of our favorite parts of being involved with BRO is meeting ladies who put in the time and effort to help grow the motorcycle community in incredible ways. When we met the ladies of VC at BRO3, we immediately fell in love with what the were doing in the UK, teaching women to ride with proper instruction and continued learning. Take a minute and read how they are shaping their community one rider at a time.

Words by Gemma Harrison:

"We started by putting up a post on our insta asking anyone who wanted to start riding to get in touch. The response was incredible! We've now given over 50 women their first try at riding. This then led to wanting to be able to hook them up with a proper training facility to be able to get their CBT certification so they could get on the road. That's when we met London Motorcycle Training & cooked up the ladies CBT training weekends.

We basically get girls discounted CBT rates & they get to do their tests with a bunch of other likeminded ladies making it pretty fun. A lot of the girls that have done the CBT Training have gone on to get bikes & ride together growing the Moto community here in London , which is incredible!

The training starts from scratch (although any experience already riding is a plus). There is the option to do the test on either a geared bike or an automatic with a top up class to train with a geared bike later. The ladies learn slow speed control, gears, U- turning & general bike skills & control. The second part of the day is beginning road riding once everyone is confident enough.

You don't need much to get started. Come wearing jeans, good boots, a leather jacket or similar and some gloves. Bikes and helmets are provided for everyone!

You'll learn everything starting right from the basics. Slow speed control & manoeuvres, geared bike control, road riding skills and all the skills you need to pass the CBT and get you road ready!

These classes are definitely doing its bit to help grow the community here in London and it's something we're really proud to be a part of ! So many of the girls have all gone on to become great friends, riding together, going on trips,  coming round to The Shop to talk about their bikes / how to wrench & coming to our monthly meet up nights at Bike Shed in East London. In fact a lot of them will be joining us as part of the Babes Ride Out UK event team this year! Weeeew!
