Triumph Bonneville T120 | A Weekend in Flight

REVIEWSAshmore Ellis

It's not too often I get to throw a leg over modern moto and give it a spin for a few days. I wasn't sure if it would "feel" right as my other bike is custom to my height, weight, riding style but I quickly found out how much fun this ripper could be just as is. When you first see it, you can't help but notice how beautiful the bike truly is with its clean lines and minimal design. The Triumph Bonneville T120 is not just a head turner, it's a modern machine that delivers one of the smoothest rides I've experienced.

Initial thoughts on the first rip: "wow, this moto is so agile and fast". At first, I rode it like a grandma going to church on a Sunday to ensure I didn't get too far over my head. I am 5'7 (on a good day) roughly 133 pounds (also on a good day) and my feet easily planted on both sides of the bike. It's extremely lightweight so I felt in control when in turns and cutting through city traffic at a slower speed. I didn't try to open it up and test myself on it in the curves of the mountain as I was riding in a group on a very twisty road (I am a safety nerd.. on a new bike... that isn't mine = NOPE). Day 2 I went on a solo ride and finally got to play with it a bit more. I was ripping down pipes canyon a little too fast and almost blew my turn. This is where I got to test the ABS and had a "modern braking systems are incredible" moment. The Bonneville stayed smooth and slowed quickly, not abruptly, and I was able to safely make my turn without breaking a sweat.  I decided to take a shortcut back to camp that had a few deep washes. Sand is the devil in my personal opinion but I wanted to see how riding this bike through a few patches would feel. It was a bit slippery but since the bike was so lightweight and sat low, it was manageable. This bike is meant for street but it's nice to know if there is ever road construction, loose sand, etc, the bike can and will make it through. Another feature I really liked is the gas mileage. Not having to stop every 80 miles sure was nice and I now know why larger tanks are appreciated.

Overall, I felt with the right luggage, I could go anywhere any everywhere on this moto and have a blast. I love the feeling of flight the Bonneville T120 gave me and how effortlessly it did what I wanted it to do in turns and on the freeway (the acceleration is excellent on this machine). Would I recommend this bike to a beginner? I think a new rider could grow into it very nicely if they practiced enough, knew their boundaries, and respected the bike. The moto is so fast and light that it could get a brand new rider in some serious trouble if they were of the less cautious type but all in all the bigger engine is nothing to be afraid of as long as you take your time and ride within your limits.

Progressive MC | Babes Ride Out 4 Video

Events, SponsorsAshmore Ellis

A little over a month ago we had the honor of producing the largest ladies only moto campout in history, Babes Ride Out 4, which brought out over 1600 women to Joshua Tree CA from around the world to ride their bikes for 3 nights / 4 days (most rode a hell of a lot more than that). We've met some amazing ladies through this event and also some incredible brands who genuinely care for the future of motorcycling. As many of you know, we don't allow vending and we expect all those who sponsor to sponsor with creative ideas that make the event a truly engaging experience catered to each and every lady who steps through the gates. Thank you to one of those brands, Progressive who set up and printed thousands of attendee photos who used their tags via instagram for souvenirs, hosted rides for those who came solo / wanted a tour guide, and allowed us to share why we moto in their interactive dark room. The stories were funny, inspiring, respectable, hopeful, and showed us just how strong this community truly is. Take a quick look at their experience at Babes Ride Out by clicking below and hope to see you all in 2017 <3 - Ashmore

Stance Muse x Babes Ride Out

We get to work with some amazing people and brands that add so much value to Babes Ride Out, one of which I get to call my workplace. I've been with Stance for a little over 2 years now. If you are unfamiliar with the brand...we make socks. Sounds weird but its actually the most creative space I have ever had the pleasure to work in. Stance is focused on culture and the socks they design come from each artists own inspiration or interpretation.  From Rihanna to Cycle Zombies, Napkin Apocalypse to D Wade, the inspiration well is never dry.

We are so thrilled that they are joining us at Babes Ride Out 4 and furthermore, have collabed on a limited edition Babes Ride Out sock that will be for purchase on site! This is Stance Socks 3rd year with Babes Ride Out and they are bringing back the United Nations of Babes wall where ladies can pin where they came from (you'll be surprised)! You'll also get to iron on a limited edition Stance patch to your favorite jacket as a memento from the weekend.

Take a look at their video from last year and don' forget to stop by and pin where you are from

Route Maps | Babes Ride Out 4

Events, SponsorsAnya Violet

Our good friends over at Biltwell have put together some killer route options for your day rides at Babes Ride Out 4. Pick up the route maps at the Merch booth and tape them to your tank & follow the directions. Enjoy Babes!!!!

This ride is so close to the campsite that you can make this trip as long or as short as you would like.

Joshua Tree National Park is out of this world! This is a must see! Joshua Tree's for miles, amazing rock formations and lots of easy hiking and walking trails for you to explore. There is a fee to enter the park and they do not prefer riding groups larger than about 8 but it is easy to meet up once you get into the park.

3- 3.5 Hours round trip (without stops)

Watch the scenery change from desert to mountains and pull into Big Bear for a lakeside lunch.

4-4.5 hours round trip (without stops)

One of our all time favorites! This route has it all. Lots of fun twisties, beautiful look outs and such a wide a variety of scenery that you can only find in California. Grab some lunch in Idyllwild! There is a reason why this route is called Palms to Pines. This route is 100% NOT for beginners!!!!

1- 1.5 hours roundtrip (without stops)

This is a great easy loop that doesn't take you too far from the campsite but you get to see some of the best that Joshua Tree has to offer. Check out Pioneertown and maybe you will catch the old western style shoot-out. Grab some lunch at Pappy and Harriets!

5-5.5 hours round trip (without stops)

This is definitely the longest of the route options but SO worth it. We recommend getting an early start for this one. This amazing art installation out in the desert will blow your mind! There is simply nothing like Salvation Mountain anywhere in the world.

Enjoy babes and ride safe!!! Lots of fun waiting for you back at camp!

A Gift from Lowbrow Customs to the First 300 Motorcyclist to Arrive at Babes Ride Out 4

SponsorsAshmore Ellis

We've know the Lowbrow Customs crew for quite sometime. They offer a ton of options you can bolt onto your bike to make it your own and even show you how to do it on their YouTube channel.  I personally have their shot gun exhaust pipes, tsunami fender, and original p-nut tank on my motorcycle and all I can say is, it's the cleanest looking bike I have ever owned. When we asked them to be a part of Babes Ride Out, they didn't hesitate because this is a company that supports riding motorcycles in every way. They don't care what you throw your leg over or if you are a "dude or a chick" because as long as you have a good time riding your bike, it doesn't matter. We agree and couldn't be happier to have Lowbrow Customs support Babes Ride Out 4 and Babes Ride Out East Coast 2 in 2017 (yep! you heard it here first).

Lowbrow has donated all the tanks you will see at the raffle during Babes Ride Out 4 and has made 300 custom made Lowbrow x Babes Ride Out clears that will be given to the first 300 motorcyclist who pull into Babes Ride Out 4 on Thursday 2:00 pm!

300 of these Lowbrow x Babes Ride Out clears go to the first motorcyclists lined up at 2:00 Thurs to get in to Babes Ride Out 4
