On the spectrum of bad ideas, attempting to race a 500lb street bike over 1000 miles of rugged terrain in a foreign country is right up there with moving in with someone you just met or buying that sweet piece of lakeside property in the Salton Sea. But BIltwell is going to do it anyways. Their buddy Rob Rouser splits his year between working in the shop in Temecula and surfing in Central America. He’s built his share of motos over the years and rode his last XR400 from Texas to Panama. It didn’t take much to convince him that this was a fantastic concept.
‘We love motorcycles but we love bad idea’s even more. Racing a 500 pound street bike in Baja seemed like the worst idea we could fathom thus the #frijole883"
We had Tim at GigaCycle make us a set of tree’s so we could run MX suspension, Temecula based MotoSeat covered some foam Duane Ballard shaped, Baja Designs was a no brainer for the lighting, Hugo Moto helped us start our foot controls, HotDog killed the paint, Elka built the rear shocks and beefed up the swing arm and Brian Pinnard has helped a ton with figuring out wheel’s and tires. PCI Race Radio’s got us sorted on navigation and the Rekluse clutch has made this 500 pound plus pig a bit more affable in the sand. Rouser and team captain Bill Bryant have countless hours in this bike and we think we’re sufficiently prepared for the challenge that is the NORRA 1000" - Otto - Team Rider | Sandwich Enthusiast
